FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State Blue Devils used a six-run sixth to take control of game two -- a 6-4 victory -- and sweep Plattsburgh at Ludwig Field on Sunday.

Down 4-0 with one out, the Devils used doubles by Jordan Basile and Josh Greco to plate the first run. Josh Melquist tripled to score Greco. Jeremy Borst then followed with a line-drive blast over the right field wall to tie the game at 4-all. Taylor Gahagen singled and stole second, then scored on a base hit by Bryan Bongiovanni to give the Devils their first lead, 5-4.

Donnie Kirsch followed with a double -- the fifth extra-base hit of the inning -- to score Bongiovanni, making it 6-4.

Starting pitcher Ricky Carlson shut down the Cardinal bats, allowing two hits over the final three frames. Carlson, who went the distance, improves to 6-0 on the season. He struck out four and walked none, scattering eight hits.

Melquist led the Devils with three hits.

The Blue Devils won the first game, 7-4, taking advantage of seven Plattsburgh errors.

Tom Hausler (4-1) worked the first five innings to get the win as his teammates rallied for three runs in the last of the fifth to erase a 4-2 deficit. Andy Dlugosz pitched four scoreless innings to pick up his second save of the season. Dlugosz gave up three hits.

Basile collected three hits and an RBI while Greco and Rob Herrmann had two RBI each. Greco had a two-run single and Herrmann an RBI double during the three-run fifth.

The wins lifted the Blue Devils to 20-6 overall and 7-3 in the SUNYAC. Plattsburgh fell to 18-11 and 4-4.

The Devils have not mathematically clinched a playoff berth. The results from around the SUNYAC were not in as of press time. The Devils also remain in contention to host the conference tournament. They wrap up the conference season at Brockport on Saturday.
