FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Joe Kephart and Josh Greco hit homers and three Fredonia State pitchers combined on a five-hit shutout in a 12-0 victory over Cazenovia on the first day of the ECAC Upstate Baseball Championship at Ludwig Field.
Kephart homered leading off the second inning, the start of a four-run inning, and Greco homered to lead off the fourth inning. Ricky Carlson allowed five hits over the first six innings before Nick Cummings and Andy Dlugosz combined for three hitless and scoreless innings of relief.
The Blue Devils (26-10) will meet St. John Fisher at 12:30 Saturday afternoon in the winners' bracket final. Fisher defeated Brockport, 10-8, in the tournament opener. Brockport and Cazenovia will open action Saturday at 9:30 a.m., with the winner advancing and the loser ousted from the double-elimination tournament.
Rob Herrmann and Josh Melquist had three hits each to lead Fredonia State's 14-hit attack against three Cazenovia pitchers. Greco and Melquist had three RBI each. The Blue Devils never trailed and led 3-0 after the first inning and 7-0 after the second.
In Fisher's 10-8 victory over Brockport, Phil Pettinella had a double, a homer, and three RBI to lead the Cardinals (20-17). Teagan Barresi added three hits while Brandon Lewis earned the victory in relief. Peter Krysztof picked up the save. Mike Meola was 5 for 5 for Brockport.
