FORT MYERS, Fla. --  Fredonia State had its second straight Jekyll-and-Hyde day at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.

The Blue Devils (3-2-1) rolled to an 11-3 in a five-inning mercy-rule victory over the College of Wooster in the 9 a.m. game at the Lee County Sports Complex. They followed that by getting mercy-ruled themselves, 10-2, by Macalester in the 11 a.m. game.

A three-run double by sophomore Maria Siderakis (Webster/Webster Thomas) with two outs in the first inning vs. Wooster enabled the Blue Devils to take a lead they would not relinquish. They scored in every inning to support the pitching of freshmen Michelle Lattner (Cheektowaga/West Seneca East) and Allison Ghyzel (Rochester/Brighton). Lattner earned her first collegiate win with three innings of work, while Ghyzel turned in two solid innings in relief in her first collegiate pitching performance.

Offensively, Fredonia State batters accounted for nine hits with freshman Courtney Wight (Bolivar/Bolivar-Richburg) leading the attack with two hits and three runs scored. Sophomore Jessica Nelson (Allegany/Allegany-Limestone) cracked a double and junior Rebecca Zimmerman (Jamestown) had a two-run single.

In the second game, the Blue Devils took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, reminiscent of the 2-0 lead they held Saturday before falling to St. Lawrence, 10-2. That loss came after a stirring 7-7 tie with Wisconsin Superior.

Like Saturday, Sunday's outcome and final score were similar. Macalester erupted for six runs in the second inning and four of the fourth off a pair of Blue Devil pitchers. An RBI triple by Lattner and an RBI single by junior Andrea Devon (Elmira/Notre Dame) accounted for the two Fredonia State runs. Lattner later added a second hit in the game.

The Blue Devils are idle Monday but return to action Tuesday with two more games at the Lee County Complex - vs. Richard Stockton at 5 p.m., and vs. U. Mass-Dartmouth at 7 p.m.
