FREDONIA, N.Y. - Fredonia State lost a pitchers' duel in the first game of a SUNYAC doubleheader Friday with the Plattsburgh Cardinals.

Plattsburgh's Bri Allen outdueled Blue Devil freshman Jennifer Tighe, 1-0, before the Cardinals (16-16, 9-3 SUNYAC) rolled to a 7-2 victory in the nightcap.

The two losses dropped the Blue Devils to 12-15-1 overall, 4-10 in the SUNYAC.

The lone Plattsburgh run in the first game came in the top of the third inning. With out out, Erin Jamieson dropped a bunt single and advanced to second when the Blue Devils left the base uncovered. Amy Woo singled to center to score Jamieson before Tighe pitched out of further trouble.

Allen limited the Blue Devils to two hits - singles by Amy Coniglio and Katie Turvey - and struck out eight. Tighe fanned seven and allowed five hits.

The Cardinals had an easier time of it in the second game. With the score tied 1-1 in the third inning, Woo cracked a two-run homer off losing pitcher Rebecca Zimmerman and the tie was broken for good. The Cardinals added four more runs off reliever Michelle Lattner before Ashley LaPorta pitched three scoreless innings of relief for the Blue Devils.

Offensively, Fredonia State had nine hits - two each by Turvey, Rachel Burrows, and Maria Siderakis. One of the hits by Burrows was a double; she later scored on a throwing error. A single by Turvey in the fifth inning led to the Blue Devils' second run, also unearned.

Woo, Danielle Djergji, Ashley Napear, and Jamieson had two hits each for Plattsburgh. Woo, Nicole Diemer, and Djergji had two RBI each.

Next up for the Blue Devils: A 1 p.m. SUNYAC doubleheader vs. Potsdam at Fredonia State.
