FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State used the long-ball to win the first game of a SUNYAC doubleheader over Potsdam, 5-3, before the Bears bounced back to win the second game, 4-3.
Brittany Lis hit a solo homer in the first inning and Amy Coniglio cracked a two-run shot to cap a four-run third inning in the first game. Ashley LaPorta pitched five innings of scoreless relief for the win while Michelle Lattner and Coniglio had two hits each.
In the second game, LaPorta returned to the mound and left with a 3-2 lead and two runners on base in the fifth inning. Potsdam's Brittany Pawlowski delivered both runs with a single and the Bears (11-15, 4-10 SUNYAC) hung on to earn the split. Winning pitcher Katie Nawrot pitched a complete game by leaving the tying run stranded on second base in the last of the seventh.
Lattner went 3 for 3 with two doubles to go 5 of 6 on the day. Katie Turvey and Maria Siderakis each had a double and a single. LaPorta took the pitching loss.
The Blue Devils (13-16-1, 5-11 SUNYAC) are off until April 25 when they are home for a SUNYAC doubleheader against Geneseo.
