FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State's bid to sweep Geneseo in a SUNYAC doubleheader fell one run short Saturday afternoon. After winning the opener 4-3, the Blue Devils (14-17-1, 6-12 SUNYAC) scored two runs in the last of the seventh and fell 6-5 in the nightcap.

Michelle Lattner (Cheektowaga/West Seneca East) doubled to open the seventh and scored on a two-base error. Rebecca Zimmerman (Jamestown) lofted a sacrifice fly before Geneseo's Kerry Kuhn (Ballston Lake/Shenendehowa) retired the final batter to nail down the win. The Blue Knights improved to 18-16 and 13-7 in the conference.

Lattner had two hits and pitched 4 1/3 innings of relief. She allowed one run run and four hits. Courtney Wight (Bolivar/Bolivar-Richburg) had an RBI double and a sacrifice fly, Maria Siderakis (Webster/Webster Thomas) a triple, and Rachel Burrows (Olean) and RBI and a single as part of the Blue Devils' eight-hit attack. For Geneseo, Megan Pogemiller (New Paltz) had three hits.

The Blue Devils took advantage of seven Geneseo errors to score the 4-3 win for Jennifer Tighe (Hamburg/Frontier). In posting her team-high five win of the season, Tighe struck out three, walked three, and scattered six hits.

Offensively, the Blue Devils managed only three hits off losing pitcher Janine Montera (Deer Park/Our Lady of Mercy) -- singles by Lattner, Katie Turvey (Lockport/Depew), and Wight. Geneseo's Amy Levermore (Fairport) doubled and singled.

While Geneseo's regular season is over, Fredonia State closes out its SUNYAC season Sunday with a pair of games vs. Oneonta at SUNY Geneseo.
