FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State senior Mike Seay (Grand Island) set a team record in the men's 100-yard breast stroke in the Blue Devils' first meet of the new year, a three-team event Friday at the Steele Hall Natatorium.

Seay was clocked in 1:01.29. That broke his previous-best time, and the school record, by .04 seconds. He was first in the event, first in the 200-yard individual medley with his first sub-2:00 of the season (1:59.75), and was second in the 100-yard butterfly.

Fredonia State was 4 for 4 in the diving events. Double winners were freshman Sarah Ficarro (Owego) for the women, 251.62 in 1-meter springboard and 255.52 in the 3-meter event; and senior Christian Torres (Dunkirk) for the men, 289.43 in the 1-meter and 273.98 off the 3-meter board.

Other standout performances by Blue Devils were turned in by sophomore Juliana Walker (Frewsburg) and freshman Stephanie Andrasek (Parma, Ohio/Normandy). Walker won the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.64) and was second in the 100-yard butterfly. Andrasek finished second in the 200-yard individual medley with a lifetime-best time.

The Blue Devils were defeated by the Edinboro men and the women, while the Ithaca women posted a victory over the Blue Devil women. Edinboro, a Division II team, won the combined scoring, while Ithaca -- a Division III power and the alma mater of Fredonia State head coach Arthur Wang -- accumulated the most points in the women's events.

The Blue Devils, just back from their annual Florida training trip, close out the week with a Saturday afternoon meet at Brockport. The first event is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
