ALFRED, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women, led by individual double winners Kelly Sponholz (Alden) and Juliana Walker (Frewsburg), scored a 146-84 dual meet victory over Alfred University.
The Blue Devil men were defeated, 129-102, despite a diving sweep by Christian Torres (Dunkirk).
Sponholz, a senior All-American, set Alfred pool records in both 1-meter and 3-meter springboard diving. Her 3-meter score also provisionally qualified her for the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving championships next March.
Walker, a freshman, won both the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle races. Single winners, not including relays, were sophomore Morgan Reisch (Fairport) in the 100-yard butterfly, junior Mandy Nelson (Frewsburg) in the 1,000-yard freestyle, junior Monica Dunlevy (Batavia) in the 400-yard individual medley, senior Emily Dizer (Tonawanda/Sweet Home) in the 100-yard backstroke, and junior Taylor Kelly (Wading River/Shoreham-Wading River) in the 100-yard breast stroke.
Dizer, Kelly, Dunlvey, Reisch, and Nelson were also relay winners.
On the men's side, Torres won both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events for the second straight meet.
Next up for the Blue Devils is a trip to Meadville, Pa., to face Allegheny next Saturday.
