FREDONIA, N.Y. -- With Interstate 90 shut down and blustery blizzard conditions outside, the Fredonia State swimming and diving teams were able to find a way to compete on Friday evening.

The Blue Devils and Gannon Knights held a virtual meet.

The Knights competed in their home pool in Erie, Pa.; the Blue Devils stayed inside the Steele Hall Natatorium, where the teams had been scheduled to compete together. After both teams completed the requisite races and dives, the results were combined.

Gannon, a Division II university, claimed a win in both meets -- 155-88 for the women, and 134-103 for the men.

Fredonia State highlights include sophomore Juliana Walker’s (Frewsburg) victory in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.17) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.98). Penny Robin (Dansville) turned in a personal best in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:24.32), good enough for second place.

For the Blue Devil men, senior Mike Seay (Grand Island) was victorious in the 100-yard breast stroke (1:02.04) and 200-yard IM (2:01.86). Junior Mike Mitchell (Medina) won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:34.38

Fredonia State went 1-2-3 in the men's diving events. Sophomore Shane Ammering (Canandaigua) won the 3-meter in his first event back after an appendectomy three weeks earlier. Freshman Ryan Fuller (Endicott/Union Endicott) was the winner on the 1-meter board.

The Devils are idle from competiton until January 15 when they are host to Edinboro, another Division II team from Pennsylvania.
