ERIE, Pa. -- Fredonia State swept all the diving events among their eight individual wins Friday in a dual meet at Gannon.
Kelly Sponholz (Alden), a senior, set pool records off the 1-meter board (247 points) as well as off the 3-meter board (283.5). Emily Dizer (Tonawanda/Sweet Home), a senior, won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:03.50. Gannon won the team competition 134-109.
On the men's side, junior Christian Torres (Dunkirk) was a double springboard diving winner. He recorded 238.15 points in the 1-meter event, and 257.3 in the 3-meter. In addition, junior Michael Seay (Grand Island) was a double winner, and senior Al Palmquist (Olean) won one event. Seay was first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:03.46) and the 100-yard breast stroke (1:02.40). Palmquist's winning time in the 100-yard backstroke was :54.86 seconds. The Gannon men were 137-102 winners overall.
The meet ended the first semester for Blue Devil athletics. The swimmers and divers are back in collegiate competition Jan. 17 when they play host to Nazareth and Ithaca at the Steele Hall Natatorium.
