FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women remained in first place after 10 events of the sixth annual Blue Devil Invitational, which continued Saturday night at the Steele Hall Natatorium.
The Blue Devils earned 138 points during the Saturday morning session on top of the 146 points they earned Friday night. The entered the Saturday night session with nearly a 100-point lead over second-palce Oswego.
Saturday morning highlights included the 200-yard freestyle relay win by the quartet of freshman Elizabeth Schake (Churchville/Churchville-Chili), sophomore Renée Solly (Lockport), senior Taylor Kelly (Shoreham/Shoreham-Wading River), and junior Morgan Reisch (Fairport). Their winning time was 1:43.93.
The Fredonia State men's 200 free relay team was third Saturday morning. Team members were senior Mike Seay (Grand Island), sophomore Matt Beebe (Rochester/Greece), sophomore Rob Sweeny (Fredonia), and sophomore Zac Parker (Rocheter/Brighton). Their 1:31.11 was just 2.07 seconds off Penn State Behrend's winning time in the event.
The Blue Devil men entered the Saturday night session in fourth place in the 10-team field with 139 points. Behrend led with 233 points.
The meet resumed 5 p.m. Saturday, and concludes with two sessions Sunday -- 10 a.m. preliminaries (plus the 200-yard medley relay finals), and 4 p.m. for all remaining finals.
