Swimming and Diving 

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men’s and women’s diving teams continued their steady climb up the SUNYAC standings at the conference meet this weekend, as both squads finished fourth overall. The women were only 22 points behind third-place New Paltz. Both teams finished fifth last year.

In addition, the Devils claimed the Diver of the Meet award for the fifth year in a row. Sarah Ficarro (Owego) was the Blue Devil representative this year. She won the women’s 3m board with a mark of 433.80.

Saturday’s results for the women included Juliana Walker (Frewsburg) setting a team mark in the 200 yard butterfly in a time of 2:13.84.

Mandy Nelson (Frewsburg) finished eighth in the mile, finishing in 18:46.53.

Morgan Reisch (Fairport) was third in the 200-yard backstroke in team-record time of 2:11.92.

The women also set the team mark in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Walker, Reisch, Liz Schake (Churchville/Churchville Chili) and Jessica Dosser (Eden) touched in 3:40.87.

Rounding out the team record times for the women was Stephanie Andrasek in the 200-yard breast stroke at 2:12.24. The women broke four team records in all.

For the men, Mike Mitchell (Medina) finished second in the 1,650 freestyle (16:45.61) and seventh in the 200-yard breast stroke (2:13.60). His preliminary time in the breast stroke (2:12.24) set a new team standard.

Both the men and women divers continued to put up solid results. In addition to Ficarro claiming the 1m board, Heather Robin (Dansville) finished fourth (377.60) and Molly Petroski (Lima/Livonia) fifth (372.10).

For the men, Christian Torres (Dunkirk) was third off the 3m board with a score of 466.45. Ryan Fuller (Endicott/Union Endicott) finished fourth with 416.40.
