FREDONIA, N.Y. -- For Fredonia State senior diver Christian Torrres (Dunkirk), it was a case of better late than never.
Torres, first in the men's 1-meter springboard diving at the SUNYAC championships last week, learned Wednesday that he had been added to the list of post-meet award winners. He and Oswego sophomore Eric Messina were named co-winners of the Male Diver of the Meet award. Messina had been announced as the sole winner after the final session Feb. 13, but a recalculation of scores allowed Torres to share the honor, as well as earn a place on the 2010 SUNYAC Men's All-Conference First Team.
In addition to his 1-meter title, Torres was third in the 3-meter event.
Mike Mitchell (Medina, Ohio), a junior distance/breast style specialist, was named SUNYAC All-Conference Second Team.
Four Blue Devil women were also chose All-Conference. First-teamers were freshman diver Sarah Ficarro (Owego), who was also the women's Diver of the Meet, and sophomore sprinter/butterfly specialist Juliana Walker (Frewsburg). Second-team choices were senior diver Heather Robin (Dansville) and junior mid-distance freestyler Morgan Reisch (Fairport).
The Blue Devils finished fourth in both the men's and women's standings, up one sport from the 2009 championship meet.
