FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State diver Scott Horsington (Churchville/Churchville-Chili) earned Academic All American honors. In addition, the women's team was recognized by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for its achievement in the classroom for the third consecutive year.
Horsington was one of 85 Division III student-athletes - 43 women and 42 men - to meet the stringent academic and athletic requirements - a GPA of 3.500 or better and qualifying for the NCAA championships - to earn individual Academic All American honors. Eight women and six men had perfect 4.00 grade point averages. Horsington ranked tenth on the list, checking in with a 3.91 GPA in Music Education.
The women's team earned a 3.05 GPA for the Spring 2008 semester, making the list for the third time.
Head coach Arthur Wang saw the correlation between his teams' performances in the pool and in the classroom. Over the past four years, his teams have steadily climbed in the conference standings, in addition to its academic improvement. "For our swimmers, academics have gone hand in hand with their swimming and time management skills. We have seen better results and better grades."
