MANLIUS, N.Y. -- Fredonia State's tennis season drew to a close Saturday during singles competition at the SUNYAC championships.
Blue Devil players dropped all but one match on the day. They were also 0-3 during doubles action Friday.
The lone winner was junior Chelsea Mang (Lancaster/Depew) by a 6-0, 6-0 score over Oswego's Aislinn Leary in the No. 6 singles bracket. Mang was eliminated later in the day by Sarah Shields of Geneseo 6-0, 6-0. Shields is the No. 1 seed in the bracket.
Calee Prindle (Geneva) was the other Blue Devil singles player to face a seeded opponent. Prindle, a junior, fell to top seed Julia Passik of Geneseo 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 3 singles bracket. Meanwhile, freshman Katrina Johnston (Fredonia) was the only other Fredonia State player to win a set. Johnston took the first set 7-6 over Oneonta's Danielle Browarski before dropping the next two sets 6-0, 6-1 in their No. 5 singles match.
In other singles competition Friday, junior Anna Norris (Binghamton/Susquehanna Valley) fell 6-4, 6-0 to Stephanie Schara of New Paltz in the No. 1 bracket; senior Mallory Long (Canandaigua) dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Jenna Wehn of Oswego at No. 2; and senior Megan Zarzycki (Rochester/Irondequoit) was defeated by Kayla DiPaulo of New Paltz 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4.
In doubles action Friday, Long and Norris lost their No. 1 match to Brockport's Katylin Broderick and Carolyn McMemermon 6-1, 6-4; Prindle and Zarzycki fell at No. 2 to Melissa Baker and Lauren Johnson of Geneseo; and Johnston and Mang were beaten 6-1, 6-3 by Kristina Lazzaro and Alana Sullivan of Cortland in their No. 3 match.
Before SUNYACs, the Blue Devils posted a dual match record of 4-6 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
