FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State tennis team defeated Plattsburgh, 7-2, in its final home match of the season. Four matches were decided by tiebreakers, with the Devils claiming all four.
It was also Senior Day for the Devils. After being presented with roses before their matches, all three seniors -- Elise Daigler (North Tonawanda), Sierra Summerville (Mexico) and Eteri Svanidze (Westfield/Yalta School, Ukraine) -- went out and claimed victories. Daigler won No. 3 singles 6-0, 7-6 (7-3). Summerville won No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-4. Svanidze won an exhibition match, 9-7.
Daigler and Summerville also combined to win their No. 2 doubles match, 9-8 (7-5).
Another double winner for the Devils was sophomore Calee Prindle (Geneva). She combined with sophomore Anna Norris (Binghamton/Susquehanna Valley) to win No. 1 doubles, 8-6, and claimed the No. 2 singles victory, 7-6 (8-6), 6-2.
Junior Megan Zarzycki (Rochester/Irondequoit) won the No. 6 singles 7-6 (7-3), 6-2.
Junior Mallory Long (Canandaigua) and freshman Lauren Shirley (Homer/Cortland) gave the Devils a clean sweep in doubles, winning in the No. 3 position, 8-4.
The Blue Devils (4-7) wrap up their season next week with the SUNYAC Tournament at the East Side Racquet Club in Manlius.
