CANTON, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men tied St. Lawrence in the Duel at Newell.
On the women's side, Blue Devil junior Jackie Majka (Depew) was a triple winner with 10.36 meters in the triple jump, 5.12 meters in the long jump, and 1.58 meters in the high jump. Her attempt to clear the NCAA provisional height of 1.66 meters missed when she brushed the bar.
Senior distance runner Trisha Ippolito (Angola/Lake Shore) won the mile run with a personal-best 5:29.87. In addition, sophomore Kate Brett (Webster/Webster-Schroeder) won the 55-meter high hurldes with a time of 8.92 seconds. Senior thrower Julia Hopson (Poughkeepsie/Arlington) finished second in the 20-pound weight throw (16.15 meters) and the shot put (12.39 meters), while sophomore Hailey Guard (Youngstown/Lewiston-Porter) ran a personal-best 2:26.92 in the 800 meters.
St. Lawrence won the team scoring, 90-62.
In the men's 76-76 tie, sophomore Eddie Novara (Angola/Lake Shore) finished first in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:47.40, just ahead of teammate and junior Tom Williams (Queensbury) in 8:49.84. Both times were personal-bests as were the following performances: junior Greg Jakcson (Sherman) with 6.74 seconds in the 55 meters; sophomore David McMahill (Hemlock/Livonia) with 1:56.68 in the 800 meters; and sophomore Nick Guarino (Bergen/Byron-Bergen) with 4:24.27 in the mile.
