FREDONIA, N.Y. -- For the second straight day, the Fredonia State track and field team cancelled out of its season-opening meet.

On Friday, the closure of Interstate 90 and continued blustery winter weather kept 13 student-athletes and coaches from traveling to Kent, Ohio, for the Golden Flash Gala -- the traditional first meet of the season for the Blue Devils.

On Saturday morning, a travel snafu resulted in the second cancellation. The bus that would have taken the team to Ohio did not arrive as scheduled because of an accident. The bus company sent a second bus, but not in time to get to Ohio by 11 a.m. for the start of the meet. Because several athletes would have missed their events, the coaches choose to cancel the trip entirely.

The Blue Devils are now scheduled to open their season Jan. 16 at an invitational meet at Rochester Institute of Technology.
