KENT, Ohio -- Fredonia State's first meet of the indoor season produced several SUNYAC qualifying performances.

Competing at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala, junior Mike Kelley (Geneseo) easily qualified for the SUNYAC meet with a personal-best 6.41 meters in the men's long jump (21' ½"). He was 11th overall, and the highest finisher among NCAA Division III jumpers.

The men's 5,000-meter quartet of junior Tom Williams (Queensbury), sophomore Josh Guarino (Bergen/Byron-Bergen), sophomore Eddie Novara (Angola/Lake Shore), and senior Chris Walters (Tonawanda/Sweet Home) each turned in a personal-best time, each worthy of SUNYAC consideration. Williams was clocked officially in 15:24 -- Fredonia State stopwatches had him at 15:16 -- and was 18th overall. Guarino was 27th in 15:37, Novara 28th in 15:38, and Walters 31st in 15:43.

Also on the men's side, Garrett Hart and Louis Solomon made the SUNYAC field with 35-pound weight throws of 12.09 meters and 11.43 meters, respectively.

In the women's weight throw, senior Julia Hopson (Poughkeepsie/Arlington) was 11th overall -- first among D-III athletes -- with a 20-pound weight throw of 14.47 meters. She and freshman Keri Heath earned SUNYAC berths in the event. Heath's top throw was 11.96 meters.

The meet resumes 10 a.m. Saturday.
