SUNYAC qualifiers aplenty at Kent State

KENT, Ohio -- Fredonia State athletes posted 30 SUNYAC-qualifying performances Saturday on the second day of the Kent State Golden Flash Gala.

Rob Rappole (Bemus Point/Maple Grove), a junior, had one of the brightest performances of the day -- a 1:55.57 clocking in the 800 meters. That was a four-second improvement on his previous-best time in the event. He finished sixth overall in the event.

Other top performances included Greg Craft (Cheektowaga/JFK), a sophomore, clearing 13' 7" in the pole vault. In the triple jump, junior Michael Kelley (Geneseo) soared 13.32 meters to a ninth-place finish. Mac McMahill (Hemlock/Livonia), a sophomore, ran the 400 meters in 51.47 seconds. Also, sophomore Nick Guarino (Bergen/Byron-Bergen) ran 8:56 in the 3,000 meters.

On the women's side Saturday, four women qualified for SUNYAC in two events each. Julia Hopson (Poughkeepsie/Arlington), a senior, qualified in the shot put and the 60-meter dash. On Friday, she qualfied in the 20-pound weight throw. Kate Brett (Webster/Webster Schroeder), a sophomore, qualified in the 60-meter hurdles and the 200; junior Jackie Majka (Depew) in the high jump and the triple jump; and junior Rhea Williams (Windsor) in the 200 and the 400.

The Blue Devils' next competition is Jan. 17 at the R.I.T. Invitational.
