NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Fredonia State senior Julia Hopson (Poughkeepsie/Arlington) finished 12th Saturday in the women's weight throw at the New Balance Invitational.
In a field made up of mostly women from NCAA Division I schools, Hopson topped out at 16.32 meters. There were 37 women in the event.
Among other highlights Saturday at the New York Armory, junior Tom Williams (Queensbury) was eighth in the men's 5,000 meters with a personal-best time of 15:06.25.
In the men's 800 meters, senior Rob Rappole (Bemus Point/Maple Grove) was 25th and sophomore Nick Guarino (Bergen/Byron-Bergen) was 32nd out of 84 runners. Their times were 1:55.26 and 1:56.19, respectively. Rappole's was a personal-best.
Mike Kelley (Geneseo), a junior, had a triple jump of 13.77 meters to finish 20th of 35 men.
On the women's side, the mile run of senior Trisha Ippolito (Angola/Lake Shore) and the 800-meter effort of sophomore Hailey Guard (Youngstown/Lewiston-Porter) stood out. Ippolito was timed in 5:33.64, Guard in 2:27.11.
