SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- One week after winning one national title, Fredonia State senior Julia Hopson (Poughkeepsie/Arlington) punched her ticket Friday to participate in another NCAA Division III championship meet.

Hopson attained the NCAA automatic qualifying distance in women's hammerthrow while competing outdoors for the first time this season at Point Loma Nazarene University's Collegiate Open.

Her throw of 54.44 meters -- short of her personal best -- exceeded the automatic qualifying standard of 52.60 meters. The NCAA D-III outdoor championship meet is May 21-23 at Marietta (Ohio) College.

Competing with Hopson in the same event, freshman Keri Heath (Farmington/Victor) had a SUNYAC qualifying throw of 33.65 meters.

The rest of the meet will be held Saturday.

Hopson won the NCAA D-III women's weight throw March 13 to become the first Fredonia State woman to win a national championship.
