NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- Junior sprinter Webster Thomas (Windsor, Conn./St. George's College) finished first in his heat and advanced to the men's 55-meter final Saturday at the ECAC Division III championship meet at Smith College.

Thomas was the fourth-fastest qualifier Friday in 6.54 seconds. He and the other seven finalists will race at 1:15 p.m. Saturday.

The other Blue Devils competed Friday and four others will compete Saturday.

On the women's side Friday, senior Jackie Majka (Cheektowaga/Depew), a senior, finished seventh in the triple jump with a personal-best 11.24 meters. She also had jumps of 11.22 meters and 11.15 meters, which matched her previous-best jump. Also, junior Kate Brett (Webster/Webster-Schroeder) ran 8.91 seconds in the 55-meter hurdles. On Saturday, Majka is entered in two events -- the women's long jump (10 a.m. start) and the women's high jump (1 p.m.).

On the men's side, junior Broncho Rollins (Ithaca) cleared 14' 10" in the pole vault Friday. On Saturday, sophomore Eddie Novara (Angola/Lake Shore) is scheduled to run the mile (11:15 a.m.), and juniors Nick Guarino (Bergen/Byron-Bergen) and David "Mac" McMahill (Hemlock/Livonia) are entered in the 800 meters (1:35 p.m.).
