BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- Five Fredonia State athletes finished first in their respective events Saturday in cold and blustery weather at the Brockport Invitational meet.

On the men's side, senior Tom Williams (Queensbury) was first in the 5,000 meters in a time of 15:35.34. Two teammates, freshman Rob Fallon (East Northport/Northport) and junior Matt Kepler (Valley Cottage/Nyack), were second and third, respectively, with times of 15:45.83 and 15:53.59.

In the 1,500 meters, junior Nick Guarino (Bergen/Byron-Bergen) hit the winner's tape in 3:58.49, while junior Webster Thomas (Windsor, Conn./St. George's College) won the 100-meter dash in 11.09 seconds.

Among the Blue Devil women, senior Sarah Furman (West Berne/Berne-Knox-Westerlo) won the 5,000 meters in 18:41.82, while junior Kate Brett (Webster/Webster Schroeder) won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:05.95.

Other top finishers by the men:

In the pole vault, junior Greg Craft (Cheektowaga/JFK) was second with a clearance of 13 feet, 11.25 inches, while sophomore Cody Dahleiden (East Aurora) was third with 12' 11.50".

In the javelin, junior Ryan Norton (Batavia) was second with 158' 3", junior Mike Hite (Hamburg) was third in 135' 8", and junior Kyle Paganello (Batavia) was fifth with 129' 8".

Also, sophomore Carl Caughell (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield) was third in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 16.14 seconds, while junior David "Mac" McMahill (Hemlock/Livonia) was fourth in the 800 meters in 1:57.90.

Also among the women, freshman Chelsea Caruso (Falconer) finished third in the pole vault by clearing 9'8"; freshman Grace Moore (Fredonia) was third in the 100-meter high hurdles in 16.74 seconds; and senior Allyssa Kline (Newark) was third in the 100 meters in 13.91 seconds.

The Blue Devil men were third and the women fifth in the team standings. There were eight full teams on both sides.
