RAIDER OPEN RESULTS

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Fredonia State had five winners and five runners-up Saturday at the Roberts Wesleyan Raider Open.

Among the winners was junior Nick Guarino (Bergen/Byron-Bergen), whose 1:51.26 in the men's 800 meters was an NCAA provisional qualifying time. Guarino is already an automatic qualifier in the men's outdoor mile, an event he won at nationals during the indoor season.

Also, junior Ryan Norton (Batavia) won the men's javelin with a throw of 53.68 meters. It was a personal-best by over four meters and is the best throw this spring in the SUNYAC.

In addition, Norton was part of two winning relays. He teamed with freshman Chris Rhienhart (Olean), freshman Spencer Lefort (Java Center/Pioneer), and junior Webster Thomas (Windsor, Conn./St. George's College) to win the men's 4-by-100 relay in 43.47 seconds. Norton, sophomore Dan Wright (Fredonia), sophomore Ron Wasik (Fredonia), and senior Joe Vella (Hamburg) hit the wire in 3:31.90 to win the men's 4-by-400 meter relay.

The other Blue Devil winner was senior Sarah Furman (West Berne/Berne-Knox-Westerlo), a first-place finisher in the women's 5,000 meters in 19:02.94.

Second-place finishers on the men's side were Wright in the 400-meter hurdles in 56.70 seconds, Thomas in the 100 meters in 10.93 seconds, Lefort in the 110-meter high hurdles in 17.43 seconds, senior Tom Williams (Queensbury) in the 5,000 meters in 15:42.09, and freshman Jack Bennett (LeRoy) in the 10,000 meters in 35:32.72.

On the women's side, senior Jackie Majka (Cheektowaga/Depew) was second in the long jump at 5.08 meters and second in the triple jump at 10.55 meters, junior Kate Brett (Webster/Webster-Schroeder) was second in the 400 meters in 1:02.09, and senior Cassidy Gertis (Bliss/Letchworth) was second in the javelin with a throw of 25.49 meters.
