SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Two Fredonia State outdoor records were broken by athletes competing at the ECAC Division III championship meet Thursday and Friday at Springfield College.

Sarah Furman (Angola/Lake Shore), a senior, lowered her own school record -- set three weeks ago -- in the women's 10,000 meters. She finished eighth Thursday in a time of 38:06.26.

Nick Guarino (Bergen/Byron-Bergen), a junior, knocked timed off the men's 1,500-meter mark with a second-place time Friday of 3:48.74. The previous record was held since May 1978 by Bob Carroll (3:49.34).

Other Blue Devil highlights included a second-place finish in the women's 400-meter hurdles by junior Kate Brett (Webster/Webster-Schroeder), which may also have moved her closer to becoming an NCAA Division III qualifier. She had the sixth best time nationally prior to the NCAA meet, and her time this weekend was faster than her previous-best effort.

Brett also finished 10th in the women's 100-meter hurdles in 15:53 seconds.

Running in his final collegiate race, senior Tom Williams (Queensbury) finished sixth in the men's 10,000 meters in 32:14.06. In addition, junior David "Mac" McMahill (Hemlock/Livonia) finished sixth in the men's 800 meters in 1:53.10.
