ONEONTA, N.Y. -- David "Mac" McMahill (Hemlock/Livonia) edged teammate Nick Guarino (Bergen/Byron-Bergen) as the pair finished one-two in the SUNYAC men's 800-meter final Saturday.
McMahill stopped the clock in 1:55.84 and Guarino in 1:56.68 at the College at Oneonta track. Together they earned 18 points in the event - 10 for first, 8 for second - while Guarino scored an additional eight points by finishing second in the 1,500 meters. His time was 3:57.61.
Guarino's twin brother, Josh, finished fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:39.24, while junior Tom Williams (Queensbury) was fourth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:16.46.
Two newcomers had jump-up performances in field events. Competing in the javelin, sophomore Mike Hite (Hamburg) finished second in the SUNYAC when he threw the apparatus 47.07 meters on his final attempt. It was a personal-best by four meters for Hite. Also, freshman Cody Dahleiden (East Aurora) finished sixth in the pole vault by clearing 3.80 meters.
The other top-six performance by a Blue Devil was by junior Mike Kelley (Geneseo), fifth in the triple jump at 13.59 meters.
The Blue Devil men accumulated 63 points to finish sixth in the team standings. Meanwhile, Fredonia State was seventh in the women's half of the meet, with junior Jackie Majka (Depew) and sophomore Kate Brett (Webster/Webster Schroeder) each earning points in two events Saturday.
Majka was second in the high jump with an NCAA provisional qualifying jump of 1.65 meters. She was also fifth in the triple jump in 10.65 meters. Brett was third in the 100-meter high hurdles (:15.89) and fifth in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles (1:06.83).
The Blue Devils also earned points with a sixth-place finish in the 4-by-100 meter relay.
