FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Day 1 of the Blue Devil invite saw the hosts go 2-0, recording of wins over Elmira College and St. John Fisher. Gallaudet also won both of its matches Friday evening.
The Blue Devils first opponent was Elmira College. Following an impressive first set 25-17 win, Fredonia found itself down 6-17 in second set. The Blue Devils eventually mounted a comeback to take the set 25-21. They took the third set 25-22, winning the match 3-0. The Devils were led by freshman Lindsey Olson (Portville/Portville) with seven kills, sophomore Brittany Lis (Lancaster/Lancaster) with 17 assists, and sophomore Sarah Zureck(Lancaster/St. Mary’s) with 11 digs.
Fredonia State's second opponent of the evening was the St. John Fisher Cardinals. After falling 21-25 in the first set, the Blue Devils swept the next three, winning 25-14, 25-23, 25-23. Sophomore Audrey Zimmerman (East Aurora/East Aurora) and junior Jenna Tatu (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) led the way with 12 and 13 kills, respectively. Adding to the effort were a duo of sophomores, Brittany Lis (Lancaster/Lancaster) with 41 assists and 16 digs, and Zurek with 27 digs.
