POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Fredonia State got back on the winning track with a pair of 3-0 wins Saturday at the Vassar Tournament.
The Blue Devils (25-9), coming off a pair of losses Friday and three straight losses overall, broke their skid with a 25-11, 25-16, 26-24 Saturday morning win over host Vassar, and parlayed that win into a 25-18, 25-21, 27-25 victory over the University of Rochester in the last match of the regular season.
Against Vassar, freshman middle blocker Chelsea Senn (Hamburg/Frontier) led the Blue Devils with 11 kills and five block assists. Amy Bertrando (Westfield), a senior outside hitter, had 10 kills and three block assists, while sophomore middle blocker Kaitlin Erdmann (Randolph) had seven kills and three aces.
In the U of R match, senior outside hitter Leanne Maloney (West Seneca/Mount Mercy) had 16 digs and four kills, junior outside hitter Rebecca Zimmerman (Jamestown) also had four kills, while sophomore outside hitter Mallory Swanson (Jamstown) and freshman setter Brittany Lis (Lancaster) had 10 digs and seven digs, respectively.
Bertrando and Erdmann were selected to the Vassar All-Tournament Team.
Seeded No. 1 in the SUNYAC West Division, the Blue Devils are the host team for the conference tournament starting next Friday. Quarterfinal matches are at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Thursday, with the Blue Devils idle until a 3 p.m. Friday against the winner of the Cortland vs. Geneseo quarterfinal.
The championship match is 2 p.m. next Saturday. All matches will be played Dods Hall.
