Women's volleyball 

Sarah ZureckFREDONIA, N.Y.  -- Sophomore libero-defensive specialist Sarah Zureck (Lancaster/St. Mary's of Lancaster), left, has been chosen to the all-regional team by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Zureck was one of 14 women and four sophomore cited in the New York Region, one of eight regions in NCAA Division III women's volleyball. She recorded a team high 516 digs, fifth most by a Blue Devil since the 1997 season. Her 29 sets in a three-set match Sept. 5 vs. Daemen is the most by a Fredonia State player since accurate statistics have been kept. She also had 35 digs in a five-set match Oct. 20 vs. Penn State Behrend, tied for fifth most oKaitlin Erdmannn the all-time school list.

In addition, junior middle blocker Kaitlin Erdmann (Randolph), right, was a New York Region honorable mention selection. Erdmann was the Blue Devils' top hitter with 296 kills and a 33.8 hitting percentage, the fourth best success rate in program history. She already holds the No. 1 and No. 2 marks on the list.

Zureck became the fifth Blue Devil to receive a post-season award. Erdmann, senior outside hitter Rebecca Zimmerman (Jamestown), and sophomore setter Brittany Lis (Lancaster) were chosen All SUNYAC First Team while junior opposite Jenna Tatu (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) made the Second Team. Zimmerman also was named to the SUNYAC all-tournament team.

The Blue Devils posted a 24-12 record in 2009 with Zimmerman and middle blocker Jen Reese (Barton/Tioga) the lone seniors. Reese is the only four-year player on the current roster. Her average of 0.59 blocks per set was fourth best on the team in 2009.
