AVCA'S NCAA D-III ALL-AMERICANS

Sarah ZureckFREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State sophomore libero-defensive specialist Sarah Zureck (Lancaster/St. Mary's of Lancaster) has been chosen NCAA Division III honorable mention All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Zureck is the first Fredonia State women's volleyball player to receive All-American recognition.

"Sarah worked very hard in the offseason to prepare for this year and it showed in her performance," head coach Geoff Braun said. "She sets a very high standard for herself and holds herself accountable."

Earlier this month, Zureck was one of 14 women and four sophomores named to the New York All-Region, a precursor to the national award. This past season, she recorded a team-high 516 digs, fifth most by a Blue Devil since the 1997 season. In addition, her 29 sets in a three-set match Sept. 5 vs. Daemen is the most by a Fredonia State player since accurate statistics have been kept. She also had 35 digs in a five-set match Oct. 20 vs. Penn State Behrend, tied for fifth most on the all-time school list.

"Sarah," Braun said, "is a vital part of our serve receive and is an incredible defender. I am very proud of Sarah and her accomplishment of being named D-3 Honorable Mention All-American. She deserves it."
