Women's volleyball 

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Fredonia State defeated host Cortland, 3-1, in the consolation match of the Red Dragon Classic.

Earlier Saturday, the Blue Devils (2-2) fell to Daemen, 3-0.

In the Daemen match, sophomore Brittany Lis (Lancaster) had 12 assists and 12 digs, sophomore Sarah Zureck (Lancaster/St. Mary’s) 29 digs, freshman Lindsey Olson (Portville) 17 digs, junior Kaitlin Erdmann (Randolph) eight kills, and senior Rebecca Zimmerman (Jamestown) five kills. Set scores were 25-23, 25-20, and 25-22.

Zureck had another 22 digs vs. Cortland, Zimmerman collected seven kills, freshman Audrey Zimmerman (East Aurora) 14 kills, and senior Jen Reese (Barton/Tioga) six kills and two blocks. The Blue Devils lost the first set 25-22 before bouncing back for 25-20, 25-232, and 25-19 victories.

The Blue Devils play their first home match Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Dods Hall against D’Youville.
