FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State fell to streaking Potsdam, 65-48, in SUNYAC action Saturday at Steele Hall.
The Blue Devils (6-6, 0-4 SUNYAC) led by as many of eight points in the first half before they were overtaken. A three-pointer by Angela Pucciarelli (Fredonia) pushed the Blue Devils out to their largest lead, 14-6, with 13:07 left in the first half.
The Bears (10-1, 4-0 SUNYAC) eventually evened the score, 24-24, on a basket by Brittany Whitton (DeKalb/Hermon-DeKalb), and took the lead for good on a layup by Rachel Graf (Elbridge/Jordan-Elbridge). Graf had four points during what became a 9-0 run to close out the first half. Potsdam led 29-24 at intermission.
The Bears stretched their lead out to as many as 20 points in the second half in winning their 10th straight game.
Merissa Gaeta (Kirkwood/Windsor) led the Blue Devils with 20 points and nine rebounds. Katie Landy (Jamestown/Southwestern) added 13 points and seven rebounds. Cortney Poirier (Moira/Brushton-Moira) led Potsdam's balanced attack with 15 points while Maureen Curley (Madrid/Madrid-Waddington) added 14. The Bears shot with 47.7 percent to Fredonia State's 27.3 percent.
Fredonia State remains at home for two more SUNYAC games next weekend -- 6 p.m. Friday vs. Oswego and 2 p.m. Satrurday vs. Morrisville State.
