(BOX SCORE: Oswego 61, Fredonia State 58)

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- A potential game-tying shot rimmed out at the buzzer as Fredonia State fell to Oswego, 61-58, in SUNYAC women's basketball at Steele Hall.

Fredonia State's Angela Pucciarelli (Fredonia) took a three-point shot as time expired but her attempt failed to fall.

Seconds earlier, Pucciarelli's free throw with :02 left cut Oswego's lead -- which had been as large as eight points -- down to one, 69-68. Two free throws by Tricia Sullivan (Copenhagen) pushed the margin back out to three.

Pucciarelli finished with 26 points to lead all scorers. Merissa Gaeta (Kirkwood/Windsor) added 16 points, while Caroline Hourihan (Buffalo/Nardin) had nine points and a team-high eight rebounds.

The loss dropped the Blue Devils to 6-7 overall, 0-5 in the conference.

Kayla Ryan (Schaghticoke/Hoosic Valley) led the Great Lakers (6-7, 4-1 SUNYAC) with 17 points. Heather Merino (Queensbury/Lake George) added 14 while Sullivan and reserve Erin Ostrander (Angelica/Genesee Valley) had 10 each.

Fredonia State will look to break into the SUNYAC win column Saturday afternoon vs. Morrisville State. Game time is 2 p.m. at the Steele Hall Fieldhouse.
