BOX SCORE: CORTLAND 79, BLUE DEVILS 60

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- SUNY Cortland was too much for the Blue Devils as Red Dragons claimed a 79-60 victory over Fredonia State in women’s basketball action on Friday.

The Devils played solid ball early, leading 21-20 mid-way through the first half. The Devils would see their biggest lead, 21-15, after a layup by Liz Wierbinski (Camillus/West Genesee) at 11:12 of the half.

From there, Cortland would go on a 13-0 run to take a 28-21 lead with just under five minutes remaining. The Red Dragons would eventually take a 39-28 lead into the break.

Cortland would outscore the Devils, 40-32, in the second half to give the final.

Wierbinski led the Devils with 13 points off the bench. Katie Landy (Jamestown) added nine points and a team-high five rebounds. Grace Moore (Fredonia) chipped in eight points and four assists.

Jessica Laing led Cortland with 22 points and 16 boards. They improve to 6-1 in the SUNYAC and 11-3 overall.

The Devils fall to 4-3 in the SUNYAC and 8-5 overall. They travel to Oswego on Saturday.
