FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Brockport staved off Fredonia State's comeback effort for a 56-52 SUNYAC win Saturday at Steele Hall.

The Blue Devils (7-10, 1-8 SUNYAC) trailed by 14 points in the first half before rallying. They took their first lead, 36-35, on a three-point basket by sophomore Caroline Hourihan (Buffalo/Nardin) with 12:06 remaining.

Katie Landy (Jamestown/Southwestern), a junior, pushed the Blue Devil advantage to three points, 38-35, to complete a 19-4 run. Baskets by Whitney Smith (Webster/Webster-Thomas) and Brenlyn Campbell (Williamsville/Lewiston-Porter) put Brockport back into the lead. That was the start of a 1-3 run by the Golden Eagles (8-6, 3-2 SUNYAC), which resulted in a 48-41 lead.

Fredonia State cut its deficit twice more to three points in the final minute, 51-48, on two free throws by Merissa Gaeta (Kirkwood/Windsor), and 53-50, on a basket by Gaeta. The Golden Eagles interspersed 5 of 6 free throws to hold off their foes.

Landy led the Blue Devils with 17 points and eight rebounds, Gaeta had 14 points and eight rebounds, and senior Angela Pucciarelli (Fredonia) added 12 points. Smith's 19 points led Brockport, while Campbell had 14 points and 11 rebounds. In addition, Molly Brewer (Lockport) grabbed 15 rebounds for the Golden Eagles.
