FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Plattsburgh grabbed the lead late in the first half and held it the rest of the way for a 59-48 SUNYAC win over the Fredonia State Blue Devils.
Up 20-17 following a basket by Caroline Hourihan (Buffalo/Nardin), the Blue Devils (6-5, 0-3 SUNYAC) were outscored 15-1 over the next six minutes. Plattsburgh's Kerri Salisbury (Staten Island/St. Peter's) had seven of her 11 points during the run.
The Blue Devils rallied in the final minutes, trimming a 50-40 deficit with 2:27 left to four points, 52-48, on a basket by Merissa Gaeta (Kirkwood/Windsor) with :51 seconds to go. The Cardinals (5-6, 2-1 SUNYAC) closed out the game on a 7-0 run, including 5 of 6 from the foul line.
Angela Pucciarelli (Fredonia) was Fredonia State's top scorer with 11 points while Katie Landy (Jamestown/Southwestern) posted a double-double -- 10 points and 12 rebounds. Shoshana Harris (Troy/Lansingburgh) led Plattsburgh with 16 points and 10 rebounds -- she was 3 of 4 from the line down the stretch. Salisbury added 11 points, while Molly Harte (Troy/Lansingburgh) had a basket in the final minute.
The Blue Devils are back at home 2 p.m. Saturday vs. the Potsdam Bears, while Plattsburgh travels to Buffalo State.
