Women's basketball

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The women's basketball team opened the 2009-2010 campaign with a 61-46 loss at Nazareth on Tuesday evening.

The teams went back and forth through much of the first half. The Devils would pull within one point, 23-22, on a three pointer by Nicole Calbi (Olean/Olean) at 3:28 . From that point, Nazareth would take control, scoring the final nine points of the half to take a 32-22 lead into the locker room.

The closest the Devils would get in the second half was five points, 43-38, after a pair of free throws by Katie Landy (Jamestown/Jamestown) at 8:50. 

Nazareth would close out the game with an 18-8 run to give the final.

The Devils (0-1) were paced by Landy with 15 points. She was seven for seven from the free throw line. Merissa Gaeta (Kirkwood/Windsor) had seven points and a game-high 10 boards. Grace Moore (Fredonia/Fredonia) had six points, four rebounds and two steals off the bench.

Nazareth (2-0) had 15 points from Kelly Dunn and 10 from Mary Holland.

The Devils travel to Penn State Behrend for the Lions Invitational this weekend.
