ERIE, Pa. -- The Fredonia State women's basketball team dropped the championship game of the Penn State Behrend Tip-Off Tournament to Kenyon, 70-52, on Saturday. The Devils defeated host Penn State Behrend on Friday to advance.
The teams were tied 2-2 after trading baskets to open the game before Kenyon rallied early and led the rest of the way.
Kenyon led by as many as 14 points, 27-13 at the 6:39 mark of the first half. The Devils outscored Kenyon 12-2 to finish the half and pull within four points, 29-25.
Kenyon outscored the Devils 41-27 the second half to close out the game.
Senior forward Katie Landy (Jamestown/Jamestown) led the Devils with 13 points. Freshman Grace Moore (Fredonia/Fredonia) chipped in 12 and grabbed four steals. Senior Merissa Gaeta (Windsor/Kirkwood) topped the Devils with six rebounds.
Sophomore guard Nicole Calbi (Olean) was the top playmaker with six assists.
Morgan Korinek topped Kenyon (2-0) with 29 points and nine rebounds.
Landy and Gaeta were named to the All-Tournament Team following the game.
The Devils (1-2) are off until next Saturday when they take on Geneva in the home opener.
