FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Despite three players in double figures, Fredonia State dropped its SUNYAC opener Friday, 86-64, to the New Paltz Hawks.
Katie Landy (Jamestown/Southwestern) led the Blue Devils (5-2) with 17 points, Angela Pucciarelli (Fredonia) had 15, and Merissa Gaeta (Kirkwood/Windsor) added 13. The trio combined to make 18 of 48 shots.
For New Paltz, Artie Williams (Newburgh) had 23 points and five rebounds and Caitlin Irwin (Brooklyn/Bishop Kearney)chipped in with 13 points and five rebounds. The Hawks (5-2, 2-0 SUNYAC) had a run of 13-0 in the first half and 12-0 in the second half while building their double-digit lead.
Both teams are back in action Saturday at 2 p.m. New Paltz stays at home to play Buffalo State, while the Blue Devils return westward to meet the Oneonta Red Dragons.
