ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State fell to 0-2 in the SUNYAC with a 73-57 loss on the road to the Oneonta Red Dragons.
Merissa Gaeta (Kirkwood/Windsor) led the Blue Devils (5-3 overall) with 22 points on 8 of 12 shooting from the field. Angela Pucciarelli (Fredonia) added 14 points; she was 7 of 8 from the line. Defensively, Caroline Hourihan (Buffalo/Nardin) led the Blue Devils with four steals.
The Red Dragons enjoyed success from the field -- 26 of 51 for 51 percent. Sara Chrystie was the leading scorer with 22 points.
The Blue Devils led only once, 2-0, and were tied twice in the early going before Oneonta took command and built a halftime lead of 36-20. A basket by Gaeta cut the deficit to 48-41 midway through the second half but the Blue Devils got no closer.
The game was the final one of the first semester for Fredonia State, which returns to action Jan. 3 at home vs. Hilbert.
