Women's basketball

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State fell to Cortland State 55-45 in Steele Hall in its final game of the season.

The Devils mounted a 31-16 halftime lead. Caroline Hourihan (Buffalo/Nardin) had 14 points in the half. She was four of four from three point range. Cortland was hampered by 16 turnovers in the frame.

Cortland regained the lead at 9:51 of the second half, 39-37, on a steal and breakaway layup by Michelle Volpini and never looked back. They would go on to score the next 16 points before Courtney Kingston (Geneseo) made a layup at 2:46 to make it 53-39.

Hourihan led the Devils with 16 points. Kalli Harrington (Westfield) turned in a solid performance with five points, six rebounds, four steals and two blocks.

Cortland improves to 22-3 overall and 15-1 in the SUNYAC. The Red Dragons were paced by Jennifer Patten's 17 points, and Volpini's 12. Jessica Liang had 16 rebounds.

Fredonia State completes its season at 9-15, 3-14.

It was the final game for seniors Angela Pucciarelli (Fredonia), Jenny Brewer (Olean) and Leisel Renaud (Brooklyn/Humanities Prep).
