BOXSCORE: POTSDAM 59, FREDONIA STATE 53

POTSDAM, N.Y. -- Fredonia State fell to surging Potsdam, 59-53, to drop to 6-7 in the SUNYAC and 10-9 overall.

The Blue Devils took a 3-0 before the Bears gained the advantage. Potsdam led 30-22 at halftime and increased its margin to 46-33 seven minutes into the second half. Fredonia State fought back to make it a one-possesion game, 52-49, on two free throws by Katie Landy (Jamestown/Southwestern) with six minutes left. Landy had seven points and Merissa Gaeta (Kirkwood/Windsor) added six points as part of the 16-6 run.

Potsdam regained a five-point lead, 55-49, on a basket by Rachel Graf, and the Blue Devils could get no closer.

Cortney Poirier led all scorers with 20 points, including 11 of 12 free throws. Brittany Whitton had 19 points and Graf added 13. Landy led the Blue Devils with 16 points, while Gaeta had nine points and nine rebounds.

It was the sixth straight wins by the Bears, who had lost 12 straight prior to current streak, including a 63-62 loss to the Blue Devils on Jan. 8 at Steele Hall. As a result, the Bears and Blue Devils are tied for sixth place in the conference, each at 6-7, one game ahead of Buffalo State at 5-8. The top eight teams make the conference tournament.

The Blue Devils are back at home for a pair of games next weekend -- Friday vs. New Paltz, Saturday vs. Oneonta.
