FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State earned one point and a potential seeding tiebreaker following a scoreless SUNYAC tie with Cortland at University Stadium.
The Blue Devils (8-4-1, 2-3-1 SUNYAC) ended the night in eighth place in the conference standings, three points behind three teams and four points back of the Red Dragons (5-3-4, 3-1-2 SUNYAC) in the bid to land one of six SUNYAC Tournament berths.
In addition, the Blue Devils won the penalty-kick tiebreaker, 3-2, after Saturday's second overtime. Blue Devils with PK goals were senior Jacki Borcyk (Rochester/Greece Odyssey), senior Sarah Stewart (Jamestown), and freshman Reilly Condidorio (LeRoy). Senior goalkeeper Becky Scroger (Spencerport) made two stops during the shootout, including one in the fifth and final round. Should the Blue Devils and Red Dragons finish the season tied in the league standings, the Blue Devils would receive the higher seed.
Condidorio had three shots on goal and Scroger made four saves for her school-record 22nd shutout prior to the shootout. Cortland sophomore goalkeeper Pam Monnier (Northport) collected nine saves.
The Red Dragons had a 22-14 advantage in shots, while Fredonia State led in corner kicks 7-3.
It was the final regular-season home game for the six Blue Devil seniors -- Borcyk, Stewart, Scroger, defenders Amber Balseca (Newfane) and Meghan Thoin (Buffalo/Mount St. Mary's), and midfielder Mimi Blackman (Pittsford/Pittsford Mendon). They were recognized during a pre-game ceremonly.
Fredonia State plays its remaining five regular-season games on the road, starting next Friday at Plattsburgh.
