BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- Fredonia State's bid to land a SUNYAC Tournament playoff berth ended Friday with a 3-2 loss Friday to Brockport.
Brockport's Rachel Murphy broke a 2-2 tie in the 82nd minute when she beat Blue Devil senior goalkeeper Becky Scroger (Spencerport) with a shot inside the box after receiving a through ball. Scroger finished with three saves.
The Golden Eagles (9-5-1, 8-2-0 SUNYAC) clinched second place in the SUNYAC while the Blue Devils (10-6-1, 4-5-1 SUNYAC) fell out of a tie for seventh place with New Paltz, pending the outcome of games Saturday, the final day of the SUNYAC regular season. The top six teams make the conference tournament.
The Blue Devils never led at Brockport but rallied from a 2-0 deficit. Reilly Condidorio (LeRoy), a freshman forward, cut the deficit in half with her 10th goal of the season, assisted by junior defender Gwen Curtis (Rochester/Greece Arcadia), in the 43rd minute. The momentum the Blue Devils gained heading into the half gained steam when sophomore midfielder Christa Morgante (East Amherst/Williamsville East) scored on a free kick at 54:22. It was Morgante's third goal of the season.
The Blue Devils had a 12-10 advantage in shots and a 5-4 edge in corners kicks. They close out their regular season Tuesday at Elmira.
