FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State closed out its regular season with a 0-0 double-overtime tie with Geneseo in SUNYAC action at University Stadium.

Based on earlier outcomes Saturday, the Blue Devils took the pitch Saturday knowing they already were assured of the No. 2 seed in the upcoming SUNYAC Tournament. They will earn a first-round bye before meeting the highest remaining seed in a semifinal game Nov. 6 at Oneonta.

Strong wind and occasional driving rain plagued play Saturday. The Blue Devils took 10 shots with the wind at their back in the first half, and none into the wind in the second. On the other hand, Geneseo had three shots against the wind and six with the wind.

Play opened up slightly in the two 10-minute overtimes. The Blue Devils got off six shots in the extra sessions to finish with 16 shots on Geneseo goalkeeper Katie Clerkin. She finished with seven saves as did Fredonia State freshman goalkeeper Meagan Meszaros (Selden/Newfield).

The tie left the Blue Devils with an 11-5-2 record, 6-2-1 in the SUNYAC. Geneseo, at 4-3-2 in the conference (10-4-2 overall), earned the No. 5 seed and a trip to Buffalo State for a quarterfinal game.
