FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Reilly Condidorio (LeRoy) scored a pair of goals, one in each half, as Fredonia State turned back Elmira, 2-1, in non-conference action Tuesday at University Stadium.
Condidorio scored a wind-aided goal with 4:44 left from outside the 18-yard line. Her shot sailed over the leaping reach of Elmira goalkeeper Karissa Wilson (Londonberry, N.H.) after a short lateral pass from Lauren Heiweil (Binghamton/Chenango Forks).
It was Condidorio's eighth goal of the season.
The Blue Devils improved to 7-4-1. They are 3-1-1 at home.
Fredonia State grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute when Condidorio scored her seventh goal of the season, assisted by Melissa Cummiskey (Clarence). The Blue Devils then had a chance to add to their lead late in the half only to see Elmira's Wilson stop a point-blank shot by Heilweil in the 28th minute.
The save became a turning point when Elmira's Kelsey Kiel (Bryn Athyn/Academy of the New Church) knotted the score 1-1 with a short blast off a corner kick by Mary Corey (Niskayuna) in the 39th minute. It was Kiel's first goal of the season.
The teams went back and forth throughout most of the second half. Midway through the half, a steady rain began to fall and the wind began to pick up and blow from south to north -- the direction the Blue Devils were heading.
Fredonia State finished with a 21-12 shot advantage, although the Soaring Eagles (4-6-0) put more shots on net, 7-6. Fredonia State goalkeeper Paula Culhane (Williamson/Gates Chili) made six saves, while Wilson stopped four.
The Blue Devils begin their final road trip of the regular season Friday at Cortland in a 4 p.m. game, followed by a 1 p.m. game Saturday at Oswego. Both are SUNYAC contests.
Prior to the game, Fredonia State recognized Heilweil for becoming the team's all-team points and goals leader Sept. 30 vs. Westminster. The record-setting ball will go on display inside Steele Hall.
