BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Goals by Lauren Heilweil and Reilly Condidorio provided the support for freshman goalkeeper Meaghan Meszaros, who made two saves to post a 2-0 Fredonia State victory over Medaille in the opening match of the season for both teams.

After a scoreless first half, Heilweil (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) tallied the eventual game-winning goal in the 54th minute. A drop pass by junior Julie LaPolla (Penfield) found Heilweil, a senior, just inside the 18-yard line. Heilweil stepped into her shot and found the net over the head of Medaille goalkeeper Brittany DeBole.

Condidorio (LeRoy), a sophomore, added an insurance goal in the 87th minute. The scoring play began in the midfield with a quick counter and pass by sophomore Julia Medwid (Alexander). The pass came to Condidorio in stride and her quick turn outside the 18 enabled her to break free of her mark.

Meszaros (Selden/Newfield) finished with two saves while the Blue Devils had three saves overall, including one credited to the team. They outshot the Mavericks, 27-9, including a 14-3 advantage in shots on goal. DeBole finished with 12 saves.

Blue Devil head coach Chris Case made note of the strong play of LaPolla, Medwid, and freshman defender Madison Brown (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield). Medwid and Brown were making their first collegiate starts.

The Blue Devils return to non-conference action Friday at the University of Rochester.
