FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State fell to 0-2 in the SUNYAC (5-3 overall) with a 2-0 home loss to the New Paltz Hawks.

Jennifer Anselmi (North Rockland) broke a scoreless tie in the 49th minute when she dribbled in alone and took a hard, quick shot from inside the 18-yard line. The Hawks (4-4-0, 1-1-0 SUNYAC) scored an insurance goal in the 76th minute when Alexa Balestrieri (Massapequa) settled a deflected cross from teammate Emily Buckner (Pine Bush) and fired a shot high into the net from 25 yards away.

New Paltz goalkeeper Sarah Boccard (Washingtonville) made four saves to earn the shutout while Fredonia State senior Becky Scroger (Spencerport) had 10 saves. The Blue Devils were outshot 18-8, while Anselmi taking seven shots and Elana Jaroff (Old Westbury) six for New Paltz.

The Blue Devils return to SUNYAC action 1 p.m. Saturday at home against Oneonta.
