OBERLIN, Ohio -- Fredonia State junior Nick Guarino (Bergen/Byron-Bergen) was 17th overall and the Blue Devil men ninth of 28 teams entered in the Inter-Regional Rumble at Oberlin College.

"Nick had a huge (personal record)," Blue Devil head coach Jeff Beck said of Guarino's 25:32 clocking over the 8,000-meter Oberlin campus course.

Rounding out Fredonia State's top five were senior Tom Williams (Queensbury) in 29th place (25:53), junior David "Mac" McMahill (Hemlock/Livonia) in 58th (26:21), junior Josh Guarino (Bergen/Byron-Bergen) in 59th (26:22), and freshman Brian Gallagher (Queensbury) in 73rd (26:34). The Blue Devil sixth and seventh finishers, respectively, were junior Matt Keppler (Valley Cottage/Nyack) and freshman Jon Williams (Queensbury).

Fredonia State's top runner this fall, sophomore Eddie Novara (Angola/Lake Shore), was held out of the race.

On the women's side, the Blue Devils were 22nd of 25 teams. Their top finisher was freshman Nicole Bochman (Jamestown), 69th overall in 23:33 for 6,000 meters. It was her personal-best at the distance. The five other Blue Devil women entered also ran PRs.

After a week off, the Blue Devils will compete in the SUNYAC championship meet Oct. 31 at Cortland.
